Through practical learning and individual coaching, this program helps you:
You’ll receive six one-hour individual coaching sessions to connect what you’re learning with your own workplace challenges and professional goals. Ask questions, explore situations you’re dealing with and get guidance on practical next steps. This dedicated time helps you move beyond understanding the concepts to deciding how to use them in your work.
Leadership is often tested in the conversations you would rather getright the first time: giving feedback, addressing behaviour, explaining adecision or negotiating a competing priority. Develop the ability to make yourpoint, listen properly and respond to concerns while keeping the purpose of theconversation clear. Learn to be direct about expectations and thoughtful abouthow your message affects the working relationship.
When the team relies on you for every answer, your own work becomesharder to manage, and their decision-making has little room to develop. Learnhow to use questions, feedback and practical learning opportunities to helppeople examine information, challenge assumptions and bring consideredrecommendations. Clear decision boundaries help you give people room to actwhile retaining the decisions that belong with you.
Fixing a missed commitment yourself can seem quicker in the moment, especially when a deadline is close. But the same problem can return ifexpectations, capability or responsibility remain unclear. Connect workallocation, feedback and follow-up so people understand what they need todeliver and the support available. Address individual concerns fairly andstrengthen the shared accountability needed for the team to perform together.
A target becomes difficult to defend when the staffing, costs ordependencies behind it have not been properly considered. Learn to connectbusiness objectives with operational activities, budgets, risk decisions andservice expectations. This helps you explain what delivery requires, recognisewhere a commitment is becoming unrealistic and make a well-supported case forresources or an adjustment.
Repeated complaints, missed handovers and manual workarounds cangradually become accepted parts of the job. Develop the ability to examine whatis causing the problem, involve the people affected and choose an improvementworth pursuing. Use performance information and feedback to check whether thechange helps, so the team’s effort goes towards a more reliable way of working.
Taking on a management role brings expectations that extend beyond beinggood at your own work. If your responsibilities are growing, this program helpsyou prepare for the people and operational decisions ahead. If you alreadymanage others, it gives you an opportunity to examine the habits, assumptionsand arrangements shaping your results. Your development stays connected to theleader you are becoming and the responsibilities you already carry.
Thisprogram suits current managers, experienced supervisors preparing for widerresponsibility and emerging managers already coordinating people or operationalwork.
It isparticularly relevant if you want to strengthen how you lead a team, manage aservice or take responsibility for an operational area.
Relevantresponsibilities may occur in roles such as:
For people already carrying these responsibilities, the program provides an opportunity to review their approach and strengthen areas that need more attention.
Our trainers and assessors delivering BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management are fully qualified to deliver and assess nationally recognised training. Your trainer holds the mandatory requirement of Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116 or equivalent) and completes ongoing professional development to stay current. Many also bring university qualifications and advanced diplomas that strengthen their adult education capability and business-industry expertise. For you, that means your trainer understands how adults learn, how to assess fairly, and how to make sure your learning and assessment meets national standards—so you know you’re being supported and assessed the right way.
For the BSB50420 Diploma of Leadership and Management, you’re learning from trainers who’ve led teams and delivered outcomes in real workplaces—planning and monitoring workloads, working with stakeholders, and driving practical improvements when things change or become unpredictable. Their backgrounds include improving business processes and performance systems, developing workplace training and assessment resources, and supporting people through change—so your learning stays grounded in what leadership looks like on the job. That experience connects directly to the focus of this qualification: building capability in leadership and communication, emotional intelligence, managing people performance and team effectiveness, and operational planning, risk and budgets.

This gives you plenty of flexibility to take additional time when needed, revisit earlier modules and work through the program around your other commitments.
