Course Overview — Business and Workplace Foundations
Starting a business support role, returning to work or taking on unfamiliar tasks can leave you working out expectations that nobody has fully explained. You are asked to prepare a document, respond to an enquiry or organise a meeting, but an important detail is missing. Asking again can feel awkward when people are busy, yet guessing can mean correcting the work later. You want to make a useful contribution and complete work others can rely on. That means understanding what is required, keeping commitments visible and knowing when to ask for guidance. As you become more familiar with the role, you also want to take on new tasks with a better understanding of what good work involves. Business and Workplace Foundations is a professional development program for people entering business support work, returning to the workplace or strengthening their everyday skills. It develops practical capability in communication, work organisation, problem-solving and digital tasks, alongside safe and respectful work, wellbeing, meeting support, workplace projects and responsible resource use. The thirteen connected modules help you build dependable ways of working. You will explore how to clarify instructions, check information and follow tasks through to completion, including preparing documents, spreadsheets and presentations that people can use. The program connects your development with everyday responsibilities and helps you recognise where further information, agreement or support is needed.

Why choose this program?

Through practical learning and individual coaching, this program helps you:

✔Turn your learning into action with individual coaching

‍You’ll receive six one-hour individual coaching sessions to connect what you’re learning with your own workplace challenges and professional goals. Ask questions, explore situations you’re dealing with and get guidance on practical next steps. This dedicated time helps you move beyond understanding the concepts to deciding how to use them in your work.

✔ Start unfamiliar tasks knowing what is expected

A short instruction does not always explain what the finished work should include. Learn to confirm the required result, relevant standards and deadline before you begin. Understand which decisions belong to you and when guidance is needed, so you can approach a new task with a useful starting point and fewer unanswered questions.

✔ Ask useful questions and respond to enquiries with confidence

‍You may be the first person someone asks, even when their request needs another person’s knowledge. Develop ways to listen, clarify what they need and check information before responding. Explain the next step and pass relevant details to the appropriate person, so being helpful does not depend on guessing or making a promise you cannot support.

✔ Keep commitments visible when requests compete

‍An email, a customer enquiry and a task from your supervisor can all need attention at once. Learn to organise activities, check priorities and recognise when deadlines conflict. Keep track of unfinished work and discuss changes early, giving you a clearer view of what you can complete and where someone else’s decision is needed.

✔Hand over digital work you have checked

Formatting problems or unexpected spreadsheet results can leave you uncertain whether a file is ready to share. Build practical skills in preparing documents, working with calculations and organising presentation content. Check accuracy, use suitable layouts and save the correct version, so the person receiving the work can find and use the information they need.

✔ Make a useful contribution when you notice a problem

You do not need to arrive with every answer to help a team work through an issue. Learn to check the facts, explain your reasoning and consider alternatives with colleagues. Develop improvement ideas into suggestions people can assess, including the resources and agreement needed to try a different approach.

✔ Know when to seek guidance and support

‍An unfamiliar safety concern, unclear instructions or work that is becoming difficult to manage can require assistance. Develop ways to describe the situation, prepare relevant questions and use appropriate workplace channels. Keep your responsibilities clear while seeking the information or support needed to continue.

✔ Build skills that support your next responsibilities

As you become familiar with your role, you may be asked to support meetings, coordinate a small project or prepare information for others. Connect these tasks with reliable habits in planning, communication and checking. Use feedback to recognise what is working and where further development would help you take on the next responsibility.

How much does the program cost?

Normally $1800 in total. The program is currently priced at $799 for a limited time, this includes a deposit of $250.00. We accept payment plans, with the current price at $10.56/wk. Each program we offer comes with a cooling off period, see T&C for more information.

How long will the program take?

A new module becomes available every two weeks. This gives you time to work through the learning material, understand the concepts and consider how to apply what you've learned in your workplace before moving on. This gives you plenty of flexibility to take additional time when needed, revisit earlier modules and work through the program around your other commitments.
